Skateshop Roundup 2021 - Ideal Skateboard Supply

Skateshop Roundup 2021 - Ideal Skateboard Supply

We present to you a yearly roundup not by us but by our friends (competition), yearly roundups can be contentious content at best, a mere list to flog leftover stock or designed to push you the consumers onto a brands website page. This list unlike above is done by our friends/competitors over at some of our favourite skate shops in the UK. 2021 has been another weird year. Read below, agree, disagree and shout at your screen keyboard warrior.

Coming through second is the West Midlands massive, Ideal Skate Supply in Birmingham. Nestled in his home at the Custard Factory Kris let us know what went down in the scene for 2021.

Best thing about 2021?

Undoubtedly the best thing about 2021 is Bournbrook DIY getting a management agreement from the City Council, the fences coming down and the spot getting legitimised.

To see how that spot has become what it is through the strength of will of the community that created it is great.

Favourite shop lurker?

2021 has not been the year of the lurker. We, like all S.O.S have a large extended family who’s visits are something to enjoy.

Best board graphic of the year?

We are truly in an era of intentionally sloppy non-aspirational graphics right now but there are still some killers. Off the cuff I’d say right now, this minute the Uma Bovo Covo Widdler is a favourite, though we are big fans of Hockey / F.A., Quasi, Anti Hero, Darkroom and Crail.

Best Shoe of the year?

Got to back the brands that back us and go with the #NB Foy 306.

UK skateboarder of the year?

Going to keep it Birmingham and go Marcus Palmer. His Companion interview is nice and the Get Lesta video Darling is almost with us.

Best Video of the year?

The Deathwish Uncrossed video was something else. Multiple re-watches have occurred.

Local Skatepark hero of the year?

Shaun Boyle [@shaun_boyle1] for being at the centre of the Bournbrook project as well as ripping that spot along with many others.

Best Instagram fodder of the year?

@lookatthisrussian

The best shop quote?

Ever? Got to be “Ultravox” which is shorthand for ’this means nothing to me”.

Best collab?

Going to say it again, Bournbrook without a doubt. An incredible collaboration.

Most skated spot?

Guess.

The thing you’ve done more than skateboarding?

Running a skateboard shop these days involves a lot of data entry. I’ve been doing a lot of that. Wasn’t looking to do that when we started this thing.
