Welcome and Dickies Skate - BTS with Izzy Almond

In December 2024 (remember that hopeful year?) a few of the team were hooked up by Dickies to skate Mallorca, sport some Dickies clobber and get to work. After being unplugged from the vortex-reality which is Hyde Park the team left a dystopic Winter bestowed upon us in Leeds and put together "there is no spoon".

Whilst over in the Spanish "ghost town" they played skateboards, cooked for one another and tried to explain the 1999 science fiction action film 'The Matrix'.

Who knows how these things work out? Izzy was there so we asked her how it went with a good old Q&A accompanied by some holiday snaps courtesy of man-on-the-scene Dale.

Hi Izzy, can you eat some member berries and look back 4 months ago to the Dickies Welcome trip?

I'll try.

First off what did you take with you? Do you have travel essentials?

Yes! I need to take my roll up blanket/pillow it's covered in the aliens from Toy Story. My SLR that my dad gifted me, my skateboard and skate shoes drrrr.

I'm such a grom and I need to know what your setup is? And shoes!?

My setup was the Short Straw 8.25" Rockett deck, Indys, Spitfire Formula Fours 53mm 99a, Mob grip and its all held together with best Missing Bolts.

Cata hooked it up last time I saw her so I was skating in some Nike SB Dunk Lows. They were actually sick to skate around in.

How much Dickies Skate stuff did you end up wearing?

Well I read the brief so I packed my bag full Dickies products and a few Welcome t-shirts.

Speaking of packing, what happened with Fred?

Oh mate bless him. I'm pretty sure it was his first time abroad. We'd gone through everything like checking in and putting our luggage through, three minutes later he realised he had left his passport in his bag! I went into to full mum on holiday mode. We got it sorted though.

Fred killed it on the trip though.

Yeah for sure, he was the MVP!

What was your favourite trick from the edit/trip?

It would have to be Blinky's switch wallie over that concrete banister, what do they call it? A hubba haha... that was mental. I was really happy getting that boardslide then shove. I've never tried quick-footed stuff like that before and it was super fun.

Great nomenclature there, how's your Spanish?

I don't know any Spanish. Surprisingly Logan is really good at Spanish!

I had to live vicariously through Instagram to enjoy the trip even when it came down to what you guys ate. I heard there was a rota system put in place?

Yes! We took it in turns every night to cook for everyone. Blinky absolutely killed it we should get his recipe! As for Logan and Fred, Fred basically did all the cooking and Logan watched. His was surprising for sure we were all hyped on it.

Did you have any favourite spots to skate?

To be honest (and boring) the whole of Mallorca was amazing, it was a ghost town full of spots.

Did we mention the trip was paid for by Dickies? Thanks Dickies!
