Mike Gigliotti's Favourite Skateboard Graphics

In the last few years you'd have been hard pushed not to come across the name Mike Gigliotti or at least to have seen some skate related product bearing his artwork. His unique visual style is equally at home on everything from the most global of footwear brands to the corest of hardware offerings, having worked on collaborative Vans, to a Palace capsule, to his current tenure at Baker Boys alongside our pal Kevin 'Spanky' Long, and with many others along the way.

It's befitting that this years Skate Shop Day t-shirt has been drawn by Mike not just because of his deep and wide connection to skateboarding but because he himself has been the owner of a proper skate store - 'Lotties', and knows the trials and tribulations of such all too well.

The Skate Store Day t-shirt can be found at the most legit stores across the UK (plus Europe and the U.S.) from Saturday the 18th.

In the meantime and in an effort to gain some insight into the man and his work we hit Mike up to tell us out about some of his personal all time favourite skateboards graphics.

Mike Lotties Favourite SKateboard Graphics
Baker Skateboards - Andrew Reynolds Shaggy - 2001

This graphic takes me back to being in the 9th grade, Baker had just come out, Reynolds was king and we watched Baker 2G constantly. We would on occasion see the Baker crew at the West LA courthouse and all wanted to be like them so bad! In this graphic Reynolds is wearing a striped shirt with some brown Reynolds 1s, that was the uniform for us.

Anti Hero - A Bittersweet 2015 - Chris Johanson - 2015

Man, I love this whole series. Chris’ art rules, the colours of these boards, I like everything about them. Johanson has a way of poking fun at things that aren't over the top, it’s awesome.

Anti Hero - A Bittersweet 2015 - Chris Johanson
Anti Hero - Jeff Grosso Pride - Todd Francis - 2015

The graphic is two dudes holding hands wearing leather on a shiny glitter board. Todd fucking rules, I could make a top five list of best graphics of all time just by him, easily. I love this board.

Santa Monica Airlines - Julien Stranger Lowrider - Chris Buchinksy - 1991

I grew up going to Rip City Skateshop in Santa Monica and this board has been hanging on the wall there since I can remember. I always wanted this board and years later Anti Hero released their version of it which was rad, I bought the board and the shirt. Ha.

Baker Skateboards - Brian Herman The Hermanator - 2005

Brian Herman's first baker board. The Herminator. I love how fried this board is. I never had it, but I still have a poster that Baker made, showing the “going pro” thing for Herman. They’re all riding his board at a skatepark and waiting for him to notice. I swear it could be the first “surprise” going pro thing ever. Either way, the graphic is cooked and the whole team are celebrating wearing wedding shirts and fucked up shoes and jeans. Bunch of hillbillies. I love it.
