Jobs In Skateboarding - Warehouse Manager

Jobs In Skateboarding - Warehouse Manager.

Looking from the outside in it may seem as if jobs in skateboarding are few and far between, but once you delve deeper into the possibilities there's a plethora of careers surrounding our favourite toy. We hit up as many people as possible to investigate deeper to ask ‘What do you even do?’, so hopefully you’ll learn something new and find helpful ways to get into our so-called skateboarding industry.

Once the orders are put through and shops are ready for everything, the real deal is done in the warehouse, I mean the boxes have to arrive from somewhere right? Greg takes us through his job at Keen Distribution, the home of Polar Skate Co., Last Resort AB, Skateboard Cafe and loads more.

What's your name?

Greg Thorpe

What is your current role and who do you work for?

Warehouse Manager at Keen Dist Ltd

What is it that you actually do? / What takes up a majority of your work time?

Manage a team and make sure the warehouse runs as smoothly as possible. The most time consuming part of my job is keeping the team on track and motivated as well as overseeing the logistics of incoming and outgoing shipments.

Did you have any roles in the skate industry before this?

I worked for Polar Skate Co. as a warehouse operative from 2014 and then became warehouse manager for Keen in 2020.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Getting to work for something I’m truly passionate for. Working with friends. Being able to bring my dog to work and of course having a skatepark at your workplace is always a bonus.

What’s the worst thing about your job?

I’ve been working for Keen for 8 years now and haven’t come across anything yet!

Any advice for skateboarders out there who want to pursue your line of work?

Show up, work hard, show initiative, and remember the first rule…'Don’t bullshit a bullshitter'.
